At 4pm on the 14th of October 1996, Hiroshi Yagi, who has dedicated his life to finding the wolves, took these pictures after noticing a strange animal on a Chichibu mountain road. The photo on the left shows Hiroshi Yagi holding one of the famous pictures. Only 15 out of the 19 photos are present here.
After years of placing trail cameras in hopes they would capture a wolf, a video was taken in 2018 featuring a wolf howling as deer run from the source.
1996年10月14日午後4時、オオカミ観察に人生を捧げてきた八木博氏は、埼玉県の山道で奇妙な動物に気づき、これらの写真を撮影しました。左の写真は、有名な写真の1枚を手に持った八木博氏です。ここに掲載されているのは、全19枚のうち15枚のみです。

In 2001 a wolflike canine was sighted by Nishida Satoshi on Kyushu with multiple images as evidence. However, there are supposedly unverified claims that it was only an abandoned domestic dog.
2001年、西田敏さんは九州でオオカミのような犬を目撃した。目撃写真も残っているが、捨てられたペットだったという未確認の主張もある。
Hiroshima Dashcam Canine
ドラレコに映ったイヌ科動物
During May 2024, a Hiroshima man reported a canine which had been captured using his dashcam. The NPO provided the man with cameras to attempt capturing more footage however the animal wasn't seen again.
2024年5月、広島在住の男性が、ドライブレコーダーで犬を目撃したと通報しました。NPOは男性にカメラを提供し、さらなる映像の撮影を試みましたが、犬はその後姿を現しませんでした。
This video was the topic of a magazine published on the 16th of February, 2020. It shows an animal running across a road and climbing under the guardrail. Yagi claims the movement of this animal was identical to his encounter with the Chichibu wild dog.
この動画は2020年2月16日号の同誌に掲載されました。動画には、動物が道路を横断し、ガードレールの下をすり抜ける様子が映っています。八木氏は、この動物の動きは埼玉県で遭遇した動物の動きと全く同じだったと主張しています。

On a September night in 2015, two wildlife conservation students witnessed an animal running 30 or 40 metres ahead of their car. Despite their knowledge of wildlife, neither could identify the animal. Below is a description of the animal.
- Slightly larger than a fox or raccoon dog, but much smaller than an adult deer.
- Long, thin tail.
- Runs with its head held up and runs with a light, agile gait (it doesn't seem to be using its whole body to run, but rather runs effortlessly using only its legs).
2015年9月のある夜、野生生物保護を学ぶ学生2人が、車の30～40メートル先を走る動物を目撃しました。野生動物に関する知識は豊富でしたが、2人ともその動物の正体を特定できませんでした。以下は、その動物の特徴です。
・キツネやタヌキよりやや大きく、成体のシカよりはずっと小さい
・尻尾が細く長い
・頭を持ち上げた姿勢で走り、走り方は軽快（全身を使って一生懸命走っているよう
な感じではなく、肢だけの力で軽々と走っている感じ）】

"This summer I was bike packing through Japan biking from Wakkanai to Cape Sata in Kagoshima and I actually truly believe I saw three Japanese Wolfs in Chugoku area Yamaguchi specifically. This scene I saw has been running through my mind ever since I saw them. They looked nothing like dogs or any dog breed in Japan I’m familiar with. I was biking up an old mountain road near a train station all by myself at 6 am in the morning. I saw three of them but basically what happened was I turned the corner and ran into one of them and then basically it looked at me and started trotting off around the corner and then as I’m biking around the corner it just went around I saw two more. And those three looked at me again then went up the road further around another corner and by the time I went around they scurried off the road and out of sight. This sighting has just stuck with me. I thinks it’s also a good note to add that I was the only person on this road for the duration of my ride. But I believe I saw a small pack while bike packing Japan. They look just like every picture I’ve seen about them."
この夏、稚内から鹿児島の佐多岬まで日本をバイクパッキングで横断しました。中国地方、特に山口県で、ニホンオオカミを3頭見かけたはずです。あの光景は、それ以来ずっと私の記憶に残っています。今まで私が知っていたどの日本犬種とも、どの犬種とも全く似ていませんでした。午前6時、駅近くの古い山道を一人で自転車で登っていました。3頭のニホンオオカミを見ました。角を曲がった時に1頭が見えました。私を見て、角を曲がって逃げ始めました。私が角を曲がると、また2頭が見えました。すると、その3頭はまた私を見て、また角を曲がって、道を進んでいきました。私が角を曲がる頃には、彼らは道路から逃げ出し、見えなくなっていました。あの光景は、それ以来ずっと私の記憶に残っています。しかも、この旅の間、この道を走っていたのは私だけでした。でも、日本をバイクパッキングで横断中に、ニホンオオカミの小さな群れを見たような気がします。そして、彼らは私が見ていた写真と全く同じ姿でした。
